D N DIOCLETIANO P F S AVG Laureate bust of Diocletian to right, wearing imperial mantle and holding olive branch in his right hand and mappa in his left. Rev. QVIES AVGSTORVM (sic!) / PLG Quies standing front, head to left, holding branch in her right hand and long scepter in her left; in field to right, N. Bastien 388 (this coin cited). RIC 216 note 2. Very rare with this interesting reverse spelling error, and with a fine pedigree. Minor areas of weakness, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of Kurt Zimmermann (* 1937) of Winterthur, long-serving numismatist at Schweizerische Kreditanstalt and Leu Numismatik, and from the A. Voirol Collection, Münzen & Medaillen AG 38, 6-7 December 1968, 560, reportedly privately acquired from Dr. Nussbaum in Zurich on 7 December 1937.
